History Of Python

History Of Python

BEGINNING:

The idea of PYTHON started in the 1980s. But the actual implementation of the PYTHON language is in 1989. And it is established on 27 Feb 1991. It was the same time when the JAVA language is also established. Most people say that PYTHON was inspired by JAVA but this is only a myth. And the professional version of PYTHON was established in 1994.

WHO?

PYTHON was invented by GUIDO VAN ROSSUM. He was born on 31st Jan 1956. He completed his master's degree in mathematics in 1982 from the UNIVERSITY OF AMSTERDAM. Further, he started research in NETHERLAND RESEARCH ORGANIZATION.

WHERE?

The CENTRUM WISKUNDE & INFORMATION is a research centre in the field of mathematics and theoretical computer science. At this place, Guido worked and through research he made it.

ANCESTOR OF PYTHON LANGUAGE:

There is a language named SETL is a high-level language based on the mathematical theory of sets. It appeared in 1969 and was developed at NEW YORK UNIVERSITY. Inspired by this language another language was formed named ABC LANGUAGE in CWI (CWI was the name of the institute where Guido worked in his early days). ABC LANGUAGE was intended to replace BASIC & PASCAL. Moreover, ABC LANGUAGE had a major influence on the design of the PYTHON programming language.

FORUM:

PYTHON was an open-source project. It was a great need for a discussion forum. In 1994 the primary discussion forum for PYTHON was formed.

WHY NAMED PYTHON?

Most people think about the PYTHON was named, due to snakes, But it has no relation with snakes at all. Guido says that "I CHOOSE PYTHON AS A WORKING TITLE PROJECT, BEING IN A SLIGHTLY IRREVERENT MOOD AND A BIG FAN OF MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS"
